Greco Wins Memorial 150 at Riverside

May 25, 1968

”Wild Bill” Greco of New Haven won Saturday nights 150-lap Memorial feature at the Riverside Park Speedway.

The attendance seems to increase every week as 6,131 fans looked on as Greco breezed to the win.

Greco continued his win streak in the 150-lap event and raised his total to four, having won three straight last summer. It was also his third feature win of the present season.

The 1967 track champion started 16th in a field of 24, was sixth by the 19th lap and second on the 44th.

With Ed Patnode of Westfield leading, Greco saw his chance and grabbed the front spot on the 64th lap.

As Patnode faded slightly, Buddy Krebs of South Windsor, the Riverside point leader, charged from way back to take over second place on the 141st lap.

At the finish, it was Greco, Krebs Patnode, Lou Carangelo of Wolcott and Dave Palczar of Collinsville, in that order. Thirteen cars were still going at the flag with only Krebs and Patnode on the same lap as Greco.
