Wyckoff Surprises In Riverside Park
Triple Crown Finale

August 30, 1980

In the Wildest night of racing at Riverside Park in many years, Ron Wyckoff recorded his first main event win in several years.

Wyckoff of Forestville, Ct., came out of retirement early this season this season to drive for the Oles-Peters Racing Team. His win came over the 125-lap distance in the final race of the Triple Crown Series.

All the front-runners in the point battle had their troubles. With Richie Evans absent due to another commitment, three drivers had a chance to take the point lead.

John Blewitt, Jr., in his first appearance at Riverside, recorded a strong third place finish. Wade Cole finished fourth and Greger, running strong all night, came back to take fifth place. For Cole, it was his best finish ever.

Rocco worked his was back through the field to finish sixth.

Richie Evans still holds the point lead with 326, but Polverari now has 318 followed by Greger with 314.

Racing will continue through the month of September on Saturday nights.
