WEST HAVEN, Conn., June 6th  -- Bobby Black, cutting loose with one of his best driving exhibitions of the season, won the 35-lap feature here at the West Haven Speedway tonight.

Cool and threatening weather kept the crowd down for the first time this season as Black edged out Ray Sharon and Bernie Palmer in one of the hottest contested events staged this season. Sherm Saunders finished fourth and Dan Gaudiosi fifth.  Tommy Sutcliffe’s car was wrecked in the second heat and he was finished for the rest of the night.

Bobby Black in his familiar #2 took down the West Haven win.

Black won the opening heat, edging out Sharon and Pete Brockett. Bernie Palmer grabbed the checkered flag in the second heat, while Johnny Cambino and Donny McDonald finished second and third.

Gaudiosi took the consolation event, with Buddy Glenn and Ed Bruneay following close behind in another thrilling event that kept the customers standing on their feet throughout.

Junior Bee, Tony Constantini and Pat Patterson were winners of the novice races.

A 200-lap late model Grand American pleasure car race will be held at the Oval on Sunday, June 14th, in which some of the top drivers in New England will be competing.
