SEEKONK SPEEDWAY - D. Anthony Venditti launched the 25thyear of racing on this fine ¼ mile oval Sunday afternoon April 18th, under cold, drizzly, blustery skies. Three time track champion, young Ronnie Bouchard, of Fitchburg, Mass. Started the year off right by copping the 35-lap Class “A” main, which paid a cool $1,000 to win. Westport, Mass’ Deke Astle was second. Ron Wyckoff of New Britain, Conn. was third and George Summers of Upton, Mass took fourth after spinning out while leading with just five laps to go.

In the Late Model Cadet feature it was George Ponte, another Westport, Mass. Boy winning over Tony Perry, Eat Providence, R.I., Bill Linden, Newport, R.I., and Rick Murray of North Tiverton, R.I.

John Arruda of Fall River, Mass took the VW main and the inaugural run of the Street Division went to Chuck Hunt of Warwick, R.I.

With four big classes of machinery it looks like a good year ahead for the Route 6.
